Religious Insanity.2

What’s Good for the Goose . . .

So, in continuing my occasional series on religious insanity, which I am thinking, is going to turn into a book, I want to offer this true story related to me by a friend a few years back.

Upon finding herself in the family way, a young woman went to the leader of an organization in a church that fiercely opposes abortion, and informed him that one of his confreres was responsible for her delicate condition.

The leader nodded grimly, wrote some numbers on a piece of paper, handed it to her and said: “Call this number, and it will all go away.”

“Excuse me.”

“Call this number, make an appointment, and it will all go away.”

“You mean—“

“I mean: it will all go away. Now go.”

“What if I don’t. What if I—“

“You don’t want to go there. Trust me.”

“But I thought the church was against—“

“Call the number, and it will all go away. Do you hear me?”

“Now go.”

And she did.

But not in peace.
