(Chicago, Illinois) I am so very grateful to have witnessed my friend’s successful launch of his pen business on November 30, 2016 at Chicago’s 21st Century Choice for Pens—Century Pens in the Loop at 231 South LaSalle Street. I speak of my friend Sylvan “Jay” Jayaraman, and I speak fondly of him because I watched him take an active interest in making his own custom pens six months ago, after a visit to Century Pens and a long talk with Century Pens founder, Ed Hamilton.  Jay told Ed he was going to get to work and would have some wares to show him, and Jay did just that on November 30, Saint Andrew’s Day.  Ed and his able assistant Charles liked what they saw, and so they set out some of Jay’s finest work for—well, there was a customer in that jewel of a shop at the time, and he worked all the counters before coming back to the counter where Jay’s pens were displayed, and he zeroed right on the fountain pen I actually had my eye on, and, yes, he bought it right then there.  Jay and I were both a little verklempt.  More than a little.  I mean, I remember hearing Jay say he was going to launch a pen business in six months, and then six months later, to the very day, he not only delivers a beautiful assort of pens, but he sells one to a man who was visiting from Japan.  So Jay went international on his first day as J. Raman Pens.  So, next time you’re in the Loop, treat yourself to a visit to Century Pens and tell Ed and Charles that you’d like to test drive one of those J. Raman Pens.  And do visit the Century Pens site at: http://www.centurypenschicago.com.
