Cozy Cottage

img_1662(Harbert, Michigan) We are totally prepared for this winter, which is beginning before this winter is actually supposed to officially begin.  Specifically, we have done the following: equipped our Honda Civic with Blizzak snow tires that really, really work;  I split a cord of oak and maple and catalpa last year that is burning beautifully in our swept and cleaned fireplace; we have at our service a full-house generator ready to kick on and provide full power at the slightest interruption in electrical service; we have amazing grippers for our boots as well as two pairs of Winter Walker snowshoes from L.L. Bean, and we reroofed in the fall with tons of insulation and a metal roof, meaning no heat loss and no more ice dams.  Oh, and I went and bought a tough new broom and an aluminum step-ladder yesterday.  So our cozy little cottage is just waiting for the stockings to be hung and for that jolly old elf to come ’round.
