Piper Piping

(Chicago, Illinois) All this singing and talking of The Twelve Days of Christmas has got me thinking of the piper who played for my mother’s funeral on June 11, 2014, Leonard Sailor.  And, yes, Piper Sailor played for Mom, Hannah Dick Macfarlan McKelvy, before she died.  In fact, we surprised Mom for her birthday one year at Tabor Hill Winery and Restaurant here in Michigan by having Piper Sailor appear with his pipes and full Highland dress.  As Piper Sailor, or Leonard said, “I wanted you to hear me before you died.” And Mom was glad she did.  And, yes, Piper Sailor played magnificently for Mom’s funeral at Church of the Holy Nativity in Chicago.  So, yes, there is a Christmas theme in all of this.  Merry  Christmas, Mom!
