Impeach Trump?

Towering Trump.

Towering Trump.

(Harbert, Michigan) We’re having a two-person debate in our little dump in the dunes about the possibility of impeachment.  Would the Republicans impeach their own president?  That is the question, and our desktop was abuzz with it this morning, with the Huffington Post suggesting there is a movement afoot to impeach President Trump.  Natalie says Trump is a liability for Republicans, and that they are anxious to remove him from office and move on.  I agree, but I say that Trump will ride this out, as he has ridden out all the concerted attacks aimed at him during the primaries and then the general election.  And, for the record, please note that Natalie and I voted for the Green Party in the recent election.  Oh, we did vote for Bernie Sanders in the Michigan primary last year, and we agree that Sanders would have beaten Trump in the general election if the Democrats hadn’t stupidly thrown him under the bus.  And while we’re at it, please know that Presidents Andrew Johnson (Lincoln’s Vice President) and Bill Clinton were impeached by the U.S. House of Representatives but acquitted by the Senate.  Richard “Tricky Dick” Nixon resigned before he could be impeached.  And: Article II, Section 4 of the Constitution of the United States of America clearly states: The President, Vice President and all civil officers of the United States, shall be removed from office on impeachment for, and conviction of, treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors.  We both know many people who cannot stand the very sight of Donald Trump and derisively refer to him as Comrade Cheeto, but we also have many friends who proudly proclaim:  “Donald Trump has done more for America in one week than Barak Obama did in eight years.”  So who’s going to win this debate raging in our little dump in the dunes?  Will the Republican-controlled House impeach Donald Trump, and will the Republican-controlled Senate convict the Donald of treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors?  My money’s on me, and Natalie’s is on Natalie.  But remember:  I’m the one who made two predictions a year ago:  1. the Cubs would win the World Series in game 7, 2. Donald Trump would be elected President of the United States of America.  I’d say it ain’t so, but it is so, so, so true.  The Lovable Losers won the World Series, and Donald Trump won the election.  Yeah, we’re in for a Trumpy ride, but impeachment?  I don’t think so.  You read it here first.

Fasten your seatbelt, everybody, because we're in for a Trumpy ride.

Republicans would NEVER vote to impeach Trump. The whole bunch of them scare the crap out of me. I, as many Americans, am feeling helpless and betrayed… And I am expecting Rod Serling to come around the corner any minute

  2. I agree. Republicans don’t have the stomach for it, and the Democrats certainly don’t have the votes. I have been watching old Twilight Zone episodes lately, and it is strangely comforting.
